When trying to access a network share on a Mac OS X network share supporting Windows Sharing Service from a Windows 7 PC you may be thrown with errors like

Network path not found error (0×80070035)

or go in cycles prompting for logon passwords.

When you try to run Windows Update from Internet Explorer (Safety – Windows Update) in Windows 7 or sometimes when you try to run Windows Update directly or installing an application, the explorer session might crash and stop responding. Remember Windows 7 is still in Beta and this is a known bug in Windows 7 caused by the Software Quality Management client.

As announced by microsoft, the Windows 7 beta operating system license expires in the month of August 2009 (2nd August 2009 on my PC). However, when you run the winver command on your Windows 7 system, it will show that the license expires in July 2009 (1st July 2009).

If you have a Network drive mapped onto your Windows 7 system, it may prompt you enter the password everytime the system is rebooted even if the “Save Password” is selected.

This is a known problem from previous versions of Windows (seen in Windows XP as well)

While the Microsoft servers continue to struggle with the massive amount of traffic, there might just be a solution for you: direct download links for both the 32 and 64 bit ISO images.

Windows 7 Beta (x86) : 7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULFRE_EN_DVD.ISO

Windows 7 Beta (x64) : 7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULXFRE_EN_DVD.ISO

See if you have luck with the direct links. Currently it's working for me, and fairly fast as well – about 340kb/s.

You'll still need to go back for a key, assuming you want to use the beta for more than 30 days, but at least you'll be able to burn a DVD or mount the ISO in your favorite virtualization app. Alternatively, there are plenty of timer reset and watermark removal tools available on the various torrent trackers.
