HashTab is a simple free utility that provides Windows extensions to calculate file hashes. HashTab supports many hash algorithms such as MD5, SHA1, SHA2, RipeMD, HAVAL and Whirlpool. While there are many tools around to perform Hash checks, HashTab propably does it the most simple and easy way. It adds a simple tab to the File properties (and hence the name I assume).

One needs to understand the big security risks when sending confidential files on emails or infact transferring over the internet because, unless you encrypt your emails or send files through secure channel (HTTPS or SSH) there is every little chance a preying over the internet can intercept and extract information of your files. While encrypting whole email works, where it can’t be affored an alternate would be to ZIP archive the files with encryption. And, for that SecureZip is the ideal tool to do.

Sometime ago, we wrote about Nagios-Checker add-on for Firefox that sits and pops alerts for you when your Nagios Alarms or Alerts. Now, we have Nagstamon which goes one step further where it isn’t for Firefox but rather just sits there in the taskbar or floats around the screen to inform you in realtime about the status of your Nagios monitored network. Its free opensource and can work in Windows and Linux (GNOME/KDE).
