In Windows 7 RC, when you try to start an application in the Virtual Windows XP (XP Mode) you may be faced with the error:
“Virtual Windows XP could not be restored because hardware-assisted virtualization is disabled”
Sometimes when you install an application in the XP Mode (Virtual XP) for compatibility issues, the shortcut may not be created in the start menu of your Windows 7 profile. An example would be an older version of Windows Media Player installed in XP mode.
With Windows 7, Microsoft has taken the compatibility features for older legacy applications to a different level with Windows Virtual PC 7 Beta. Windows Virtual PC 7 beta is a feature of Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise which provides you the capability to run multiple Windows environments such as Windows XP Mode from your Windows 7 desktop.

SC is a simple command line utility that can be used to communicate, control or query the Service Control Manager in Windows. “sc” should work in Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003/2008. “sc” is quite powerful that it can control services locally and on remote systems. “sc” can query details, start,stop, configure services that can all be done from the Service Control Manager (services.msc) ideally making it a great tool to include in scripts or for command line junkies like me.
