Finjan is one of the security products company that drew my attention this year at InfoSec 2008 in London. The protfolio reminded of Kasperskys early days.

Finjan SecureBrowsing provides you with safety ratings of URLs showing in your browser. Finjan SecureBrowsing is a security extension for your browser that scans and classifies web addresses to provide you with safety rating of URLs before you visit them. Proactively alerting you to potentially malicious web addresses in links of search results, ads and other selected web pages, SecureBrowsing protects you from webpages that could be used to compromise your privacy and identity.

Finjan’s SecureBrowsing scans each URL as it currently exists on the web, each time the address is displayed in your browser. Using this method, Finjan’s SecureBrowsing will always provide a safety rating for each URL showing in your browser. This on-demand and real-time scanning approach is powered by Finjan’s patented behavior-based inspection technology.

Finjan SecureBrowsing extensions work on Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers. Installation is straight forward in either case, (Run the exe in Windows and click the download button open firefox to install the extension).

Finjan Secure Browsing extensions shows icons based on its ratings for each of the links as in the screenshot. While it scans, it doesn’t slow down your browser to any noticable levels. A Good to have browser extension!!!

For Internet explorer, downloaded the explorer here

For Firefox (Firefox 3 is supported), visit here and click the Download button and follow the instructions to complete the installation.

  1. For some reason the finjan secure browsing scanning has suddenly become much slower, (by a factor of about 10), since a week or so ago. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
