I recently installed Windows 7 and was having the described problem of not being able to open links in firefox from outlook. I followed the directions above...

Go to start>run type regedit click ok

Now you need to navigate the following key from left pane

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL\shell\open\ddeexec

Now you need to Double click on the Default REG_SZ registry value from right hand side, which should have a value of “”%1?,,0,0,,,,”. Delete that value and leave it blank.

Close and exit registry editor

...and now I no longer get the error message when I click a link from an e-mail but nothing else happens either. Is there another step or something else I need to do?

Thanks in advance.

@sue
You need to make sure if you are using IE as your default web browser.Which OS you are using XP or vista

or try this

Open Windows Explorer> Tools> Folder Options> File Types tab. Highlight URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol click Advanced button then Edit button. Under Application used to perform action it should read:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

Hope this helps

Hmmm... I'm having multiple problems with Firefox with the latest update, and cannot get it to run at all. Have unistalled and reinstalled multiple times. I have the same URL general failure happening now with IE, and this fix didn't help (not surprisingly). Any idea how to fix IE?
