Coming back to security, today we can have a look at DBAN (Darik’s Boot And Nuke) security tool which helps with full disk data destruction on your PC or servers. Ideally suited for destructing your PC or Server hard disk before recycling or passing it onto a charity.

DBAN is a bootable media (CDROM/Floppy/USB) which boots in and destructs every single Hard Disk that it detects. DBAN can destruct IDE,SCSI, SATA devices.It has support RAID devices but the FAQ clearly states of known problems with RAID controllers. DBAN can support PRNG seeding (Psuedo Random Number Generator) and logs the results onto a TAR file (compressed)

Create a bootable CD or a bootable media like Floppy & USB flash drive where supported by the System BIOS to boot from these media’s especially USB and reboot the system with the media. Ensure that the device from which you are booting is the first boot media on your system (say CDROM).

From Windows, you can create a CD by downloading and burning the ISO image or if you want to run DBAN from a floppy drive or USB drive then download the executable, run and follow the onscreen instructions to create the media.
