How to play AVI-files in Windows Media Player

This tutorial will explain how to play AVI-files in Windows Media Player

Solution 1

Download and install Divx codecs from here after installed these codecs you should be able to play .avi files in windows media player

Solution 3

Download and install VLC Media player

VideoLAN Client (VLC) is a media player, streamer, and encoder for Unix, Windows, Mac OS X, BeOS, QNX, and PocketPC. It can play most audio and video codecs (MPEG 1/2/4, DivX, WMV, Vorbis, AC3, AAC, etc.), has support for VCD, SVCD, and DVD (with menus), and can read or dump streams from a network source (HTTP, UDP, DVB, MMS, etc.). It can also act as a server and send streams through the network, with optional support for audio and video transcoding.

Solution #1 worked BUT I still can’t play the AVI movie file using Windows Media Player. It only shows the movie on “Divx”, which is what I downloaded. I want my AVI files to play on my Window Media File.

my vlc won’t play avi’s or flv’s
it buffers 0%, then stops, and nothing happens.
i downloaded the codec for wmp, did nothing,

I downloaded it and i still cant figure out how to play my avi or mp4 files

does it work on XP sp3

i downloaded Iron Man 2 movie and i cant play it, its avi and i tried downloading the movie from different sites and its always avi, i tried with divx and with xvid, and also with the other one and i still cant play it. does anyone know how can i play it???

Still no good after doing solution #1. Now the error I get is:
“Unsupported Format. This video is in an unsupported format and cannot be played without installing additional DirectShow filters.”

What now?
