Prepare this Disk error in Windows Vista after installing VMWare

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

After installing VMWare, Windows Vista will recognize CDs and DVDs as blank Discs on your CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD drives. When you try to access from “Computer”, it will pop the message

“Prepare this Blank Disk”

VMWare prompts to disable Auto-Run in Windows Vista to avoid performance and application issues during installation. If accepted, VMWare disables “Autorun” and thereon you face with this problem.

To resolve this problem, enable Autorun from Windows Registry and restart the computer.

To enable Autorun in Windows Registry,

1. click Start search “Run”

2. In the run box, type “regedit” and press enter. This opens Windows Registry Editor.

3. Once in, Navigate to

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom]

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    \System
        \CurrentControlSet
             \Services
                  \CDRom

4. In the right-pane, double-click “autorun” key and change its value to “1″. This should enable Autorun back on the drive.

5. Restart the computer.

Now, your problem is a goner!!!

Thanks for this. It’s practically been driving me crazy when I tried to open a disk full of important information but only getting the option to reformat it.
