Microsoft has a free Internet Connectivity evaluation tool that you can use to test your internet connectivity status and what features apart from the basic connectiviy that your router which connects you to Internet provides.

This is quite useful tool and unfortunately only on Internet Explorer browser. It installs as a browser addon and runs from the browser so no installation is required.

Just came across FixWin a free utility for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. FixWin is interesting because all it does is a fix 50 known issues in Windows 7 and Windows Vista with 10 fixes under 5 different categories. FixWin doesn’t identify or diagnose a problem for you but if you know you do have a problem that FixWin can resolve then the resolution is just click away.

If you experience Slow Network Connection or file copy from and to the Windows 7 PC or laptop takes ages to completes or connection disconnects then this could be caused by the Task Offload settings. The task offload settings are enabled by default at the NIC level and globally at the system level. This should work for Windows Vista as well.
