When installing Windows XP SP3, yoou may be faced with error code 0x87FF054F “Internal error occured”. This can happen, if the Windows Automatic Update service is disabled. Could also be a problem with the “Background Intelligent transfer Service”.
Those who ran Windows update yesterday or today on your Windows Computer running WIndows XP SP2 or Windows XP SP3 would have found security update KB951376 installed. For those, who look into the details, you would have noted that this update was already installed on the updates from the 11th June. Also, your “Control Panel – Add/Remove programs” might show KB951376 as well as KB951376-v2.
So why the same update ran twice on my pc or why I see 2 entries for the same KB in my Add/Remove Programs??? Well, nothing to panic!

This is very likely a restricted registry permission in the Windows Registry. This could be caused an application like Antivius software which changs the System Access Control lists (SACL) causing this issue.
To quickly identify if it really is a registry permission issue check the
C:\Windows\Svcpack.log (or %windir%\Svcpack.log) for something similar to the following lines
DoInstallation:DoRegistryUpdates failed.
Access is denied.
Message displayed to the user: Access is denied
On AMD based computers , after upgrading to Windows XP SP3 the system may continously reboot or report the following error
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer…

This is caused by the intelppm driver. This driver is not required anyway on a AMD based system.
After installing Windows XP Service Pack 3, you will find the “Address” option in right-click Windows Taskbar – Toolbars is missing from the available options.
