When running Windows Update in Windows Server 2008, Windows Update may fail with the error code 80070057. This is caused by the winHTTP Web Proxy Auto Discovery Service. WinHTTP implements the client HTTP stack and provides developers with a Win32 API and COM Automation component for sending HTTP requests and receiving responses. In addition, WinHTTP provides support for auto-discovering a proxy configuration via its implementation of the Web Proxy Auto-Discovery (WPAD) protocol.
When you run Windows Update from your PC or Laptop, you may be faced up with the error code 0x8DDD0018.

Those who ran Windows update yesterday or today on your Windows Computer running WIndows XP SP2 or Windows XP SP3 would have found security update KB951376 installed. For those, who look into the details, you would have noted that this update was already installed on the updates from the 11th June. Also, your “Control Panel – Add/Remove programs” might show KB951376 as well as KB951376-v2.
So why the same update ran twice on my pc or why I see 2 entries for the same KB in my Add/Remove Programs??? Well, nothing to panic!
If you are running Windows Update Service Pack3 (SP3) and you have a critical update KB899589 might fail and you would end up with a Red Icon on the System Tray with a notice on Windows Update about a hidden Critical update. This is a problem in Windows Update.
Basically, this update is not required for your Windows XP desktop or laptop if Service pack 3 (SP3) is already installed.

the repair installation process would have replaced the latest Wups2.dll on your system with the original version of the file that was available on the CD
or
the registry cleaner would removed a required Registry key
