MWSnap is a free utility to take screenshots of your Windows Desktop. The utility itself seems to be not updated for a long time (last stable release is from 2002) but still does it pretty effectively and the features loaded onto it is almost most of what you find in new utilities not necessarily free. MWSnap allows you to screenshot fixed or any size rectangle space, a full screen, windows or a menu.

Just came across FixWin a free utility for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. FixWin is interesting because all it does is a fix 50 known issues in Windows 7 and Windows Vista with 10 fixes under 5 different categories. FixWin doesn’t identify or diagnose a problem for you but if you know you do have a problem that FixWin can resolve then the resolution is just click away.

In Windows server 2008/2003, Windows 7, Windows Vista and XP, by default NTFS filesystem maintains file names in old 8dot3 format for every file in long filename format to allow legacy applications to be able to access to these files. If you do not use any legacy applications or using a Fileserver which is extensively used then finetuning or even disabling 8dot3 naming can significantly improve performance.
