This tutorial will explain How to Enable Recent Documents Menu in Windows 7

Right click the ‘Taskbar’, click ‘Properties’ > select the ‘Start Menu’ tab > click ‘Customize’

In the dialog displayed, check off the appropriate menu link, ‘Recent Items’
