You could also do this:

Open Opera, goto Settings, Advanced, and uncheck the "Set Opera as default browser" option.

The lovely people there suggest a much simpler way of doing things.

What Opera you running? I've been using Opera 9.5 Beta on my Treo800w for sometime now and there is a setting (no need for a registry edit here) to make Opera your default or not browser. Just open Opera and click the "^" icon on the right. This brings up a popup SIP at the top is the "Settings" click that. Go to the "Advanced" tab and click it. Scroll to the bottom, there you'll see "Set Opera as default browser" make sure thats unchecked. That should do it.
