Looks like a dns problem Folks. I have had the problem for awhile and finally found the time to really work on it. Thanks to this thread I resolved it. I had manual dns entries in my ipconfiguration. I recorded them and allowed my machine to be automatically assigned DNS. (don't even remember why i used static entries in the first place.) Now i am just finishing updating the machine.

Thanks all.

Hello,

In my case, I was using Windows Seven in a Virtual PC 2007.

DNS was set to automatic, and ipconfig/all was showing 3 DNS picked up, 1-My router, 2-My ISP DNS and 3-My second ISP DNS.

My DHCP was set to a virtual address 10.192.131.254.
I simply set my DNS to this same address.

I hope this will help some1, as it seems different proxy problems have the same error message.

Cheers

I am really really REALLY happy to download updates again. I'm even so happy that I figured I'd leave a comment!

In fact I never really expected to be able to update ever again without reinstalling Vista. What helped me was
<a href="http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html" rel="nofollow">Malwarebytes anti-malware</a>

A long time ago Spyware Search&Destroy found a Trojan-DNS changer, I thought it had removed it completely. Well, I thought wrong.
After a scan with Malwarebytes it found 6 entries in my register, fixed those, and right now I'm downloading 63 updates (550,3 MB).

Thank you very much :)

"Hi
Ive been messing around with exactly this problem for a couple of days now. Windows would not update as it couldne find the server and my google was also messed up, sending me to you tube and a pay per click site whenever i selected a link. I did all the virus removal stuff, to no avail. Finally, i gave the Dutch guys idea a go and finally sorted the problem. The translation he gave needed a little fettling so here is my version. Im running Vista home premium by the way.
1 go to control panel
2 select network and sharing center
3 under network (public network) click view status next to local area connection
4 on the popup box that appears, click properties and click continue on the acknowledgement (if it appears)
5 scroll down to “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and select it with a single click
6 Select properties
7 Under the general tab you will see two sets of boxes, one to select the IP address and one to select the DNS server. Both of these should be set to obtain automatically. If you have numbers in the boxes and the “use the following (IP/DNS server) address is selected, make a note of the numbers (just in case!) and select automatic instead. Click ok and close down all open pages.
I then had to close windows update as it was coming upo with unable to do an update as it was already doing on. Either reboot or alternatively (and quicker) click start, type cmd in the search, on the command prompt icon right click and select run as administrator and acknowledge the popup. type net stop wuauserve and press enter. This will stop windows update. close the command prompt and run windows update and hey presto. Good luck!"

^^^^

THIS WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!!!!
ANYONE THAT HAD THE 80244019 ERROR DEFFO NEEDS TO TRY THIS OUT BECAUSE IT WORKED PERFECTLY!

JUST MAKE SURE U REBOOT AFTER YOU MAKE ALL THE CHANGES AND THEN GO INTO UPDATE.
:)

Thanks A LOT Drew!!!!

SO - I am extatic I found this site and these suggestions, I've been racking my brains for nearly 3 months uninstalling and reinstalling my mcaffee to learn that it wasn't mcaffee. I've been running SuperAntiSpyware now for 2 hours and it's picked up 4 trojans (including the changer and a second called .dropper Gen). Not sure why it's taking so long to finish... any thoughts?
