I also had no sound on my old xp computer after installing Vista, and had no luck with the above. I went to the Sony site ( i have a Sony computer)and entered my model number, Sony had drivers for my sound card. I downloaded and installed the drivers, at first the computer said the drivers were for xp and nothing changed, then vista said it could try to make them work, it did it’s thing, rebooted and now i have sound again. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks! Solution 2 worked for me on a brand new Lenovo G530 with Windows Vista Basic. Saw other sites suggesting K-Lite SoundPac or something and another suggestion CC Cleaner but neither were necessary. Much Appreciated!

After two days of trying everything to regain sound and $100.00 later for Tech Support (which did not fix it) I am happy to say method 2 WORKED!!!! Yea!! I reinstalled the current sound driver, THANKS!!

Didn’t work for me.

I’ve never had sound on Vista, ever since I installed it (installed with SP1 included). In Control Panel -> Sound I have only a ‘Digital Output Device’ and very few options.

Teddy – maybe SP3 or SP4. I’d retreat deeper into the mother*board and wait for winter – worked for my people in WWII : )

2nd option worked for me, thank you so much for helping me avoid this nightmare…I never use vista but didn’t have a choice for my laptop >.<
