If you want to start applications with higher or lower priorities in Vista follow this procedure

Click on Start—>Run type the following command click ok

start /<priority> program.exe

where <priority> is Low, Belownormal, Normal, High, Realtime, Abovenormal

e.g. start /high word.exe
