Fix for Unable to open .PPS & .PPT Files in Outlook express

when you open a .PPS & .PPT file that came as a mail attachment in Outlook Express you may see the Open / Cancel dialog box. When you select Open, the following error might appear
“This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel”
For Oulook Express
This fix will work for power point 2003 and power point 2007
Click Start, Run and type CONTROL FOLDERS and click on ok
In the Folder Options select the File Types tab, Scroll down select Microsoft power point slide show and Click Advanced
Click the New button
Type Open in the the Action: text box,In the Application used to perform action: field, type the following and Uncheck the Use DDE box
For PowerPoint Viewer 2003
“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\PowerPoint Viewer\pptview.exe” “%1″
For PowerPoint Viewer 2007
“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\pptview.exe” “%1″
Click OK two times and Close the Folder Options dialog
For PPT files
If you have problem with .PPT files, then make the above changes to the following file type
PPT (Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation)

I am having trouble opening Power Point 7 attachments sent to me via e-mail. I tried the fix method shown on this page but it would not accept it (I think the words Microsoft Office typed in the “Application used to perform action” field may be the problem inasmuch as I do not have Microsoft Office, but rather have Microsoft XP. This is very frustrating!
